I'm a med student and in need of little help. A patient of mine had episodes of panic attack for the last 5 years, and the attack occur about once in 3 months. He had been stressed because a lot of travelling and less time with family.

Just that 7 months ago, a trigger worsened it. Sx got worse, and became more frequent 3-4 times a day. The trigger was death of father, changing to a new job and more chalenging position and kids at home.
Problem is I'm not sure if he has GAD or just panic attack. He does have agoraphobia and now coming with depressive symptoms.

The way he tells it, he might have had the stressor and worrying for a long time. He also has somatic complaints. Sleep is disrupted, which could be attributed to the GAD or depression.

Please help.

Have you discussed this with your supervising attending?
