I received an email today from a girl I don't know. She says she's 14 and being abused.
She says she got my name from my AOL profile. On my profile I shared that I was a hotline counselor but that was long ago. What do I do?

Refer them to a local crisis line. A good place to start is:

Do not become involved. Tell her what is available, and that you do not do counseling any longer. To start ofering advice can be a trap for you legally. This girl was smart enough to find you on the internet. I am sure she can use a tlephone book and get a crisis center---if that is really what she wants.
