Hi,

I'm a brazilian; married, two kids, BS in Mechanical Eng.; BA Sociology and Anthropology, 38, Specialist in Brasilian Literature (Graduate w/o Thesys), 4 years of Psycoanalisys formation and rechearch.
My intention is to apply to a Medicine Course in US. I don't know much about medicine formation courses in US. Here in Brazil, admissions occurrs after we finish High school,a dn the Course is like aundergraduate one. It takes 6 years plus 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 years of residency. It depends ot the major speciallity.
Since I have already a BS and BA, how can I proceed to look for the best way of applying into Medicine? How long it takes from the beggining until the end of the course in US ? Should I take "pre-med" or not, or Can I apply direct to a medical school and take advantage of the my curriculum in BS, such as physics, Maths, Chemistry, etc ? The only missing would be, so, the matters such as Bio, Anatomy, Organic Chemistry, etc.
I don;'t know much about the Schools of Medicine, but since I'm planning to leave in Illionois or in Florida, is there any College there that can match my requisites background ? Also, I need to work and do the course in parallel, are there any classes that could be taken at night ?
I strongly need some info to help me out on this decision, due to the arragements to be done.

Tks in advance

Medical school in the US is different in that undergraduate and med school are not combined into a 6 year curriculum as you are describing in Brazil (there are a few exceptions for exceptional students out of high school).

The vast majority of people will complete a 4 year college with a bachelors degree, making sure they have completed the pre-med courses:

1 year general biology
1 year general chemistry
1 year organic chemistry
1 year physics

And then they will take the MCAT exam. Finally, you apply to medical schools. Since you already have an undergraduate degree, you'd need to make sure you had taken the above pre-med classes as well as take the MCAT exam. There are probably several colleges near whereever you will live in the US that will offer part time coursework in the pre-med curriculum. The best suggestion is to talk to some of the college advisors at colleges in the area where you will be living.
