Hi, I'm a High School senior interested in going into Psychiatry, but I also wanted to get a tattoo (on my back so it would be covered) but are there any rules or regulations in most hospitals against tattoos at all? I know it's kind of off topic, but I just really want to know before I get the tattoo...

This reminds me of some of the old threads on piercings and going to medical school.

If the tattoo is covered, there is absolutely no issue. If the tattoo is in a visible spot, depending on what it is, it is always possible it could offend someone, especially some of the older more conservative doctors.

I suppose it is possible that a hospital could have a policy against certain types of tattoos, especially ones that could indicate gang affiliation.
