Hi Dr. Dave!

I am a freshman undergrad at Hopkins and I was hoping to go straight to medical school after graduating with Bio degree in 3 years. I realize that would mean that I would only have 4 semesters of grades and one summer to improve my resume. Would medical schools frown upon people applying too early? Thanks!

bluejay,

You definitely can go to medical school with only 3 years of college. I've known a few people who did this. Given all of the AP courses kids are taking now in high school, combined with the proper schedule in college, people are able to graduate in 3 years. Typically the students who did this were very strong candidates who did well in their pre-med courses and well on their MCATs.

While it is always possible that some medical schools would look down on someone having less experience before medical school, I think you would be just as competitive having graduated after 3 years at most, if not all, medical schools.
