My son is a senior at UT Austin. He has a 3.5 GPA. Majoring in human biology. His. Mcat score is 34. He has volunteered some. He will be bilingual. He plans to take a year before applying to med school so that he can do more volunteering and work some. He has shadowed a doctor. What else can he do ? Does he have hope of acceptance into med school?

Based on the GPA and MCAT acceptance tables mentioned in this thread, it seems your son has roughly a 67% chance of getting accepted into medical school. I don't know that other extra activities will make much difference in his application. If he applies to a range of schools, it seems he has a decent chance of getting accepted. Is there any other reason he is taking a year off? Had he applied to any schools already?

He just wants to be out in the work force first. Earn some money. He wants to help with the cost of med school. No,he has not applied. Plans to do so in May. Thanks for answering my question.
